Do As I Say, Not As I Do

GBC resolutions? Who cares? Especially if you ARE a GBC. H.H. Sivarama Swami smiles brightly in front of a rising sun through the forest on the large banner spanning the width of his official website. Srila Prabhupada's photo must be hiding behind one of the tree trunks. It's not there, nor anywhere on the homepage. Moreover, there is very small type that says, "inspired by the teachings of Srila Prabhupada." Not His Divine Grace. Not A.C. Bhaktivedanta. Not Founder-Acharya. Just the familiar form of addressing the Mahabhagavat without whom H.H. Sivarama Swami would still be Peter Letai struggling for existence like everyone else.

The GBC resolution was adopted when H.H. Sivarama Swami was a GBC. He was one of the original sponsors! How quickly we forget. Somebody might want to remind him. I think the omission was just an oversight, although I find it troubling that there is not even a link to Srila Prabhupada's bio or books. See for yourself. It's all about Sivarama Swami, no Bhaktivedanta Swami in sight.

If a GBC cannot follow the very Resolution that he supported, then why in the world would they expect others to follow any GBC directives? Crazy makin'!

309. Founder-Acarya on ISKCON Guru Websites
[Guideline]

Whereas the proliferation of official and unofficial websites of ISKCON gurus currently do not, in large part, prominently feature the personality and teachings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada as the Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness on the introduction page as well as on many other pages;

And whereas it is necessary to establish guidelines for such websites so that as far as possible visitors are made aware that whatever inspiration the devotees are receiving from the guru is due to the great mercy of Srila Prabhupada:

RESOLVED:

ISKCON gurus shall be responsible for ensuring that their own official websites adhere to the following guidelines:

The Guru Services Committee will compile a suggested comprehensive template for use in guru websites." [Note: They never did.]

1. They prominently feature a picture of Srila Prabhupada on the introductory page
2. They credit him as the "Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness"
3. They contain a brief summary of his accomplishments and provide authorized website links to his teachings
