Jogapith, Mahaprabhu birth place
In 1887 an ardent devotee of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a distinguished scholar and Deputy Magistrate of British Raj period Kedarnath Dutta, later Known as Srila Bhakti Binode Thakur (1838–1914) after long painstaking search ascertained through his transcendental vision the exact site of birth of Lord Srichaitanya on the left bank of the Bhagirathi river, at Sri Mayapur under Nabadwip P.S, in the district of Nadia, West Bengal, in India, while it was a completely desolate place.
In 1894 the first and foremost temple named “Jogapith” was erected at the exact birth-site of Lord Srichaitanya with “Archa Bigraha of Sri Sri Gour-Bishnupriya” at his initiative at Mayapur out of 'public charity fund'. One High English School was also established at Mayapur subsequently, named ''Kedarnath Institution''. Thereafter, 'Sri Chaitanya Math' was established at the initiative of Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami at Mayapur along with some ancilliary buildings. Subsequently the school was renamed as “Thakur Bhakti Binode Institution”. So long all these works were done out of personal contribution of one pious rich man, Sakhee Charan Roy and subsequently by other few dignitaries.
