The first female disciples of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati in the West

[First Western Female Disciples of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati]

The first two western female disciples of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur were — Vinode Vani devi dasi and Vishnu-priya devi dasi.

While one of them have left this world, there is no news about the other.   However, it's nice to know that initiating women went back to the time of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati – thus it is proof that it is part of our lineage.  They must have been very special souls, considering the time period they were born into. They came at a time it might not have been easy to change one’s lifestyle and religion.

The Mataji with the dark hair, Vinode Vani gave up her family home in Willesden Green for a temple. She was initiated by a letter in 1933 and they corresponded regularly through letters which may still be at the temple.

It's a Gaudiya Mission and it is still functioning to this day. A picture of the lady is put up above the entrance to the temple room. People are welcome to the sweet temple to worship. A feast is held here every Sunday.
