Siva-puja in ISKCON

Siva-puja in ISKCON Ujjain – Introduced by Bhakti Caru Maharaj

Why has Bhakti Caru Maharaj introduced Siva worship at ISKCON Ujjain Temple when Srila Prabhupada never did it, moreover he was against it. Here is one of the innumerable quotes:

"So here the point is that just direct people to Krsna, or the Supreme Lord. Don't misguide them that "Here is another god, here is another god, here is another..." The Bhagavad-gita also, in the last instruction, Bhagavan says, mam ekam. Ekam means one. "Only surrender to Me." (Lecture on Srimad Bhagavatam 1.5.15–17 -- June 19, 1969, New Vrindavan)

Maharaja's disciples say because Ujjain is Siva-ksetra, we have to do it. But Kolkata is Kali-ksetra, so shall we celebrate Durga-puja in our ISKCON Kolkata? Or shall devotees in the west celebrate Christmas and worship Jesus like Kirtanananda Swami did? The answer is obviously No!

Srila Prabhupada did not teach his disciples to hold festivals for Siva-ratri or Durga-puja nor Ganapathi-caturthi. He simply repeatedly told us to worship Krsna exclusively and have respect for all demigods – but no demigod puja.

Maharaja's disciples say "But Lord Siva is great devotee, we worship him as a vaishnava, what is wrong?" Srila Prabhupada knew better than us that Lord Siva is a great devotee, but he did not celebrate Siva-ratri festival and he did not do Siva abhisekha inside or outside of ISKCON temples.

Maharaja's disciples say that it is a preaching strategy, so more people will come to temple. But on the video we see 90% ISKCON congregation devotees who came to worship Krsna are now introduced (misguided) into Siva worship. (Facebook page)

Why not attract people with nagara kirtan and prasadam as Srila Prabhupada taught us?

A few reasons why not do Siva puja at ISKCON temples:

1. Srila Prabhupada never did it
2. It encourages demigod worship which is not our dharma – nama sankirtana is
3. Preaching is compromised
4. Opens gate to Mayavada
5. Promotes mishra bhakti
6. Bad example for other ISKCON temples (they may follow it)

Why does the GBC not stop this gross deviation, which will open the way to mishra bhakti and Mayavada? Is there anybody who can stop this deviation?

Some more quotes from Srila Prabhupada:

"...those in the mode of ignorance worship Lord Siva" (SB 3.5.43)

"Ghostly characters worship Lord Siva to be gradually guided toward a path of self-realization. Mayavadi philosophers are mostly worshipers of Lord Siva" (SB 3.14.24)

"persons who are in the gross ignorance of identifying with the body worship Lord Siva" (SB 3.26.61)

"One class, who are grossly materialistic, want material prosperity, and their desires are fulfilled if they worship Lord Siva"(SB 4.4.15)

"Generally people worship Lord Siva for some material benefit, and although they cannot see him personally, they derive great material profit by worshiping him." (SB 4.24.17)
